My Skincare Journey at 30: Natural Choices with iHerb and Nuestro Secreto

As a 30-year-old Asian woman, I've come to deeply understand the importance of skincare. In my 20s, I didn't pay much attention to it. However, as I entered my 30s, I felt my energy levels plummeting dramatically, and I guessed the same might be happening to the collagen in my skin. At this age, I started to notice subtle changes in my skin, like fine lines and decreased elasticity. To prevent a skincare disaster in my 40s, I recently dove deep into skincare research. Instead of exploring mainstream or over-the-counter brands, I found myself gravitating towards natural, organic products. Living in the small Mexican town of Chiapas, I was inspired by friends who made their skincare products, ensuring natural quality at an affordable cost (they mentioned many skincare products are basically lotions or petroleum jelly). This sparked my interest in natural and organic products. While I believe high-end brands have their irreplaceable value, I haven't had the chance to experience them yet, and for now, the affordable options seem sufficient for my needs.

Asians, thanks to genetics, often look younger than their age, which is a significant advantage. Moreover, Asians generally love skincare, sometimes taking it more seriously than exams or work. Standing under 150cm, many of my friends mistake me for a woman in her twenties. They are shocked when they find out I'm over 30, with their jaws dropping in disbelief.

They often ask me, "How do you take care of your skin?"

I think to myself, "Well, it's the concept of traditional Chinese medicine - I love drinking hot water and avoid cold foods like ice cream. Also, I often practice Gua Sha to improve circulation. Otherwise, I didn't even bother with lotion until a couple of years ago. It's only recently that I've started taking skincare seriously (embarrassed laugh)."

During the recent Buen Fin (Mexico's Black Friday), iHerb and the Mexican brand Nuestro Secreto had discounts, so I ended up buying a bunch 😂. I've been quietly following iHerb for a while, known through the Instagram family influencer riceandshine.co. They're famous for their natural and organic products, selling not just skincare but also health foods and organic snacks for kids. The transparency of their product ingredients online already earns them a +100 in my book. Nuestro Secreto came to my attention when I was looking to buy natural products and stumbled upon their website by chance. Their products are not only natural and gentle but also specially tailored for the skincare needs of my age group.

Here, I'm not holding back any secrets and will share my skincare notes.

- Cold Pressed Grape Seeds Oil - Great for under-eye bags and fine lines. The oil is particularly effective for the skin under the eyes, with a light and absorbent texture, making it suitable for daytime use. I often apply it before heading out in the morning. Grapes are rich in polyphenolic compounds, Vitamin C, D, E, and essential fatty acids (EFAs). In layman's terms, polyphenols are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, enhancing skin defense, slowing skin aging, and lightening scars.

- Cold Pressed Jojoba Seeds Oil - Great for moisturizing and firming body skin. I use it to firm up my body skin, and it leaves my skin feeling more nourished and elastic.

- Cold Pressed Pomegranate Oil - Great for neck lines. It helps with neck wrinkles, sagging skin, and cellulite. Pomegranates also contain antioxidants, improving dry, flaky skin, providing moisture, maintaining skin elasticity, and promoting cell growth. It has a refreshing texture and is easily absorbed, making it suitable for daytime use.

- Virgin Coconut Oil - Great for skin cleansing and makeup removal. Coconut oil has many functions: as a makeup remover, hair conditioner, and exfoliator (in fact, many massage oils also use coconut oil as a base). For hair conditioning, I usually apply it to my hair 1-2 hours before washing. Just rinse it off while shampooing, and the next day, my hair shines brilliantly. For exfoliation, mix coconut oil with fine sugar or salt (actually, virgin olive oil works well here too). Its texture is quite thick, which is why it's great for removing impurities. You definitely wouldn't want to use it during the day, especially if you apply it to your hair for conditioning, as it can look like you haven't washed your hair in three days. It's more suitable for use at night for bathing, makeup removal, hair conditioning, and exfoliation.

- Cold Pressed Avocado Oil - Great for smile lines. It's recommended to apply it specifically to areas with smile lines or forehead lines, not

necessarily over the entire face. Cold-pressed avocado oil contains antioxidants A, D, and E, improving dry, flaky skin. It also contains potassium and EFAs, providing moisture.

- Rosehip Oil - Might as well be the long-lost twin of grape seed oil! It's rich in antioxidants to combat skin damage caused by free radicals. Rosehip oil typically contains linoleic acid and a small amount of oleic acid, improving acne-prone skin, moisturizing, preventing or lightening scars, evening out skin tone, brightening skin, and relieving inflammatory reactions.
